Next meeting & Long list

Happy Festive Season everyone :o) Sorry for the delay in posting this - this month we are reading 'The Warrior's Apprentice' by Lois McMaster Bujold [NB: when you buy this it might say it's book 4 in a series - the rule isn't that we can only read the 1st book in a series it's that the book must be standalone. These are sort of like Culture books in that they can be read as standalone novels but are also part of a series. Having read most of the book now it reads fine without having read any others!]

We will be meeting a week later than usual but staying at The Parcel Yard for the month. Please pass the invitation on to anyone who might want to come along.

LONG LIST: As is traditional in this season we have dropped the long list and we will make a new one. If you want to add a book please post it here. The rules are:
- the book must be able to be read as a stand-alone book. It could be the first part of a set as long as it is self-contained
- it should be less than 400 pages, or easily read in a month by an average busy person ;o)
- it should be easily available and not too expensive (i.e. if it's not in print lots of second hand copies should be easy to find and it should retail at less than £10)

If you're curious about what we've already read the master list is here: http://bibliogoth.livejournal.com/88031.html

It may be the 4th one set in that universe, but it is the first in the life of Miles Vorkosigan - which is where the story really starts.
